The "Blood Protection Law" provided for severe jail and prison terms in the event of intermarriage between Jews and "citizens of German or related blood". The "Blood Protection Law" constituted the basis for approximately two thousand criminal proceedings for "race defilement". Hans Globke, who later became Konrad Adenauer’s Head of Chancellery, furnished further definitions of the term "race defilement" in his legal commentary that was published soon after the law was passed.
