The Nuremberg Race Laws broadened the legal basis for the discrimination and persecution of Jews in Germany, which had already started in 1933 at an alarming rate in the form of professional bans and numerous special laws. Historian Hans-Ulrich Wehler points out that "by the onset of the war in 1939, almost one thousand five hundred regulations were issued with tremendous finesse, perfidy, and consistency, and were applied word for word".
The Nuremberg Race Laws are regarded as the epitome of National Socialism’s perversion of the concept of the constitutional state. In this way, race ideology put on a legal appearance. Ultimately, this paved the way for the NS genocide policy.
